Boost for Scottish fundraisers as Brooke becomes registered charity in Scotland

Brooke volunteers at the Royal Highland Show in 2019.

Working horse and donkey charity Brooke is pleased to announce that it is now officially registered as a charity in Scotland.

There are currently nine volunteer fundraising groups in the country; Aberdeen, Campbeltown, Dumbartonshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Fife, Glasgow, Highland, Jedburgh, and Stirling. Each of these make a vital contribution to Brooke’s work around the world, relieving the immediate suffering of working animals and the people who depend on them, whilst creating positive change for future generations.

Aberdeen was the first of Brooke’s Scottish fundraising groups and, to date, has raised approximately £140,000. Over the years, the group has fundraised for Brooke at a large number of events including a fashion show at the Marcliffe Hotel, where Brooke’s President HRH The Duchess of Cornwall was in attendance, a special garden party, and a charity screening of the 2011 film War Horse at the Aboyne Community Theatre.

Alison Galloway, based in St Andrews, is Brooke’s Senior Community Fundraising Officer for Scotland. She said: “I am delighted that Brooke is now registered as a charity in Scotland. It offers us a wider range of opportunities, and I’m so excited to see Brooke’s supporter base and our presence in Scotland grow significantly so that we can make a real and lasting difference to the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules.”

Whilst 2020 saw many events cancelled due to the pandemic, Brooke’s fundraisers were still able to raise awareness of working horses, donkeys and mules and use the power of virtual connection to raise funds. For example, in Aberdeen, a virtual garden tour organised by a volunteer as part of the Bloom for Brooke gardening campaign raised over £2700.

Looking ahead, Brooke will be taking part in Scotland’s virtual Kiltwalk 23-25 April and the in-person Kiltwalk in Glasgow in August, Covid-19 restrictions pending. As well as this, there are Brooke places available for the Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon in May, and there will also be an Ian Stark Masterclass in aid of Brooke, and an Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show in Aberdeen in this year as well as many more exciting events.
