March volunteer of the month - Vicky Farmer, East Midlands

Vicky Farmer is this month's volunteer of the month, having fundraised for Brooke since 2004.

Vicky Farmer, 61, from North Warwickshire heads up Brooke’s East Midlands Supporters Group and has been actively fundraising for the charity since 2004.

In that time, her region has managed to raise £100,000 towards Brooke’s work around the world improving the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules and the people who depend on them.

Vicky, who has horses of her own, decided to start fundraising for Brooke when she came across a flyer about brick kiln donkeys. She said: “It made me cry. My own horses were pampered and well cared for and these poor animals needed so much help. I set up a direct debit there and then and the rest is history as they say.

Fast forward a few years and Vicky’s fundraising group were able to raise enough money in 2008 to ensure the purchase of two mobile clinics in Pakistan, where there are an estimated 4.75 million working equines.

In her role as leader of the East Midlands Supporter Group, Vicky will continue to organise events to raise awareness of Brooke and the millions of working horses, donkeys and mules supporting communities around the world. The group is part of a large network of volunteers fundraising for Brooke around the UK.
