Working horse and donkey charity nominated for Charity Film Awards 2025
Vote for our film in the Charity Film Awards
International working horse and donkey charity Brooke’s new film, marking its 90th anniversary, has been nominated for the Charity Film Awards 2025, and needs votes from the public to reach the shortlist.
“Brooke at 90”, voiced by Midsomer Murders and Ted Lasso actress Annette Badland, follows 90 years of the charity’s dedication to improving the lives of working animals, using archival and present-day footage.
Brooke was founded in 1934 by a woman named Dorothy Brooke, who helped thousands of former British war horses abandoned in Egypt and whose legacy today reaches more than 1.5 million working animals globally.
Annette Badland said: “I’m so proud to be supporting Brooke, a charity that makes a world of difference to millions of working horses, donkeys and mules in the communities where they are needed most.
“It is an absolute privilege to be part of this wonderful story of hope, and reading the script brought a tear to my eye.”
The annual Smiley Charity Film Awards is the world’s largest cause-based film campaign, which has helped more than 2,500 causes gain exposure, donations and volunteers since its creation.
In 2023, Brooke won the Grand Prix People’s Choice Award for its film, “Unbreakable Bonds”, showing how bonds between people and animals build foundations for life-changing relationships.
Working horses, donkeys and mules are the backbone of many communities around the world, helping people to earn an income and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
These communities rely on their animals every day, often seeing them as a member of their family who they share a deep bond with.
“Brooke at 90” hopes to spread the charity’s message of hope for working animals to many more people, whilst recognising its dedicated supporters who help it reach millions of animals through emergency treatment, training and policy changes.
