Dil Peeling, Director of Animal Welfare and Sustainability at Brooke, commented:
“This video highlights the fact that the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world are extremely difficult. One hundred and twelve million of them toil in some of the world's toughest environments carrying building materials, people, goods and crops. Many of them suffer terrible pain, exhaustion, dehydration and malnutrition, but a lot of these problems can be prevented. People rely on the income they make from their working equines to support their families, but don’t always have the resources or sometimes knowledge to properly care for them.
“Brooke is an international animal welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of these animals. We work in 11 different countries with owners, communities and policy makers to prevent accidents like this, and make long lasting improvements to the lives of these animals. In 2014 and 2015, we funded a project in Colombia to improve the welfare of horses working in manufacturing of tiles and bricks."
