Brooke aims to give working horses and donkeys a life worth living
Brooke has launched a brand new three-year strategy that will aim to reach and improve the lives of more animals and communities than ever before.
Building on the tradition, heritage and outstanding work that Brooke has achieved since 1934, the new strategy will work to transform equine welfare, increase the visibility and inclusion of working equids at all levels, and strengthen health systems to meet the immediate and future needs of animals.
Brooke aims to create a world where working animals are free from suffering and have a life worth living.
There are approximately 100 million working horses, donkeys and mules around the world, working to support the lives of around 600 million people. Using an approach based on evidence, advocacy, collaboration and community engagement, Brooke aims to create a world where these working animals are free from suffering and have a life worth living.
During Brooke’s last strategic period, the organisation made great strides in changing the lives of working equids. Examples of which include success in calling for bans on the devastating donkey skin trade, the establishment of the first training school for farriery in Africa, and greater standards for working animals and their owners in brick kilns, such as the provision of water, shade and first aid.
Moving into this exciting new chapter, Brooke will continue to drive both immediate and lasting change.
