Jane's journey into farriery began ten years ago after attending a seminar organised by Brooke. Volunteering to learn hoof care, she found her calling.
Jane, now a farrier and goods transporter, moved from the Rift Valley 15 years ago.
Initially, Jane used donkeys to fetch water for the community, quickly realising their potential to support her family's needs.
Through hard work and dedication, she has been able to educate her children.
“Thanks to my donkeys, I have two graduates and one child currently in university."

"I love my job because I love donkeys. I find joy in helping them," she says.
Jane's work includes repairing hooves, applying medicine to wounds, and teaching farmers how to care for their donkeys. Despite often not being paid, her commitment never wavers.
As the only woman among seven volunteers, Jane takes immense pride in her work.
"As a woman, I’m very happy to be doing a job that’s mostly done by men, and I’m proud."
Her satisfaction comes from the tangible impact she makes, especially during the rainy season when donkey hooves are more susceptible to injuries from mud and debris.
“I feel so good. Farriery gives me joy."
Jane expresses deep gratitude to Brooke for donating tools that aid her in her farriery work. Brooke’s support has been instrumental in her ability to serve the community, visiting farmers and ensuring their donkeys are well cared for.
Jane's story is one of resilience, dedication, and the profound bond between humans and donkeys. Your donation can help support Jane and others like her who are committed to improving the welfare of donkeys and their communities. Together, we can make a difference.

I know too well that by supporting Brooke I am helping to bring the lasting change for equines that I want to see. I know Brooke cares about working animals and their communities.
