Wako Burka Koroso is a dedicated farmer from a rural village who owns five beloved equines. Before receiving training from Brooke, he used his animals for farming and other purposes without appropriate welfare or protection. With Brooke's help and guidance, Wako now provides his equines with adequate shelter, food and water. This has significantly improved their health and happiness.
Wako now understands the five welfare principles, which include providing shelter, water, protection, harnessing and rest for animals. He further appreciates the importance of compassionate handling, proper nutrition, cleanliness, and necessary medical care, including vaccinations and referrals.
With his newfound knowledge, Wako now trains other farmers within his community on proper equine care and welfare.
"Brooke educated me to look after my three horses. So, I now have to serve the community. I must give back and offer whatever I can."

He emphasises the importance of allowing horses to express their natural behaviours, “when my horse is happy, he shows different behaviours. He shows his natural behaviours by rolling on the ground and playing with his mates, and he can do all those things. In contrast, he bows his head down when he feels sad, and I can see the sadness on his face”.
Wako’s dedication to animal welfare extends to his children, who also help care for their horses and donkeys. This hands-on involvement ensures that the next generation understands and values good equine care.
While educating others on the importance of providing food and water for their animals, Wako understands the financial challenges many farmers face. To help with their difficulties he creates saddles at home for those who cannot afford them.
Wako's story is one of transformation, education, and community service. Your donation can help support Wako and other farmers who are dedicated to improving the welfare of their equines and, in turn, their communities. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

I know too well that by supporting Brooke I am helping to bring the lasting change for equines that I want to see. I know Brooke cares about working animals and their communities.
